Most charges against IU student dropped, one rape charge remains

BLOOMINGTON — A Monroe County Circuit Court 2 Judge Valeri Haughton dismissed the majority of charges against 20-year-old Noah Apgar, an Indiana University student, who was accused of raping two women during the same week.

Apgar was facing five counts of rape, one count of strangulation, and one count of confinement. Apgar’s case took a significant turn on Tuesday, October 29, when the judge upheld only a single rape charge against him.

Apgar, a resident of Greenwood, was banned from the Bloomington campus in September after two women reported that he assaulted them. The police investigation revealed four separate reports of sexual assault on the Bloomington campus during that month. The most recent alleged attack, which occurred on September 13, prompted another victim to come forward with accusations against Apgar.

Apgar will appear in court at 1:30 p.m. on November 25 for a pretrial conference.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
