Mitchell man gives false identity to police, flees scene and is arrested

MITCHELL – On Wednesday, October 30, at approximately 6:13 p.m., Mitchell Police Officer Tanner Gray responded to the 2000 block of State Road 37 after a report of a male possibly using drugs in a restroom.

Upon arrival, Officer Gray spoke with the reporting party, who indicated the male had been using the restroom for several hours. An employee reported hearing unusual sounds, which prompted them to check the restroom. Upon entering, the employee observed the man wiping off the sink.

After verifying the situation, Officer Gray informed the male that he would wait for him outside the restroom. When the male exited, Officer Gray requested his driver’s license, to which the male replied that he did not have it on him. The male told police his name was Cory Waltman.

When Officer Gray attempted to confirm the man’s identity, he noticed discrepancies between the photo associated with the name given. He determined the male’s true identity was that of 31-year-old Christopher Moen. At this point, Moen fled on foot through the parking lot. Officer Gray pursued him, issuing commands to stop. After a brief chase, Moen eventually complied and was apprehended.

Moen was wanted on a warrant in Monroe County.

He now faces new charges of resisting arrest.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
