LAWRENCE CO. – A man is recovering after being shot multiple times Monday evening in a violent confrontation on the west side of Lawrence County. The incident, which began with a 911 call at around 7:50 p.m., led to a swift law enforcement response and the arrest of a suspect, later identified as Nina Devillez, 31, Indianapolis area.
According to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received the distressing 911 call, during which they could hear a heated exchange between a male and the assailant. The conversation quickly escalated as the sound of gunshots rang out, followed by cries for help. Responding deputies, including Sgt. Robin Compton, Deputy Thomas Porter, and Capt. Lonnie Johnson immediately rushed to the scene in the 6700 block of US 50 West.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a 44-year-old male from Indianapolis who had been shot multiple times. Sgt. The victim was initially transported to Bloomington Hospital for treatment, then later flown to an Indianapolis hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
While tending to the victim, deputies gathered vital suspect and vehicle information. Shortly after, officers learned that the Martin County Sheriff’s Office had located and detained the suspect, who was later identified as Nina Devillez.
Investigators believe the shooting occurred along a secluded drive leading into a field. The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office launched a thorough investigation, including multiple search warrants and crime scene processing, ultimately leading to Devillez’s arrest.
Devillez was charged with attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, and pointing a loaded firearm. The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the shooting is ongoing.
“The quick response and collaboration between local law enforcement agencies helped ensure the suspect was quickly detained, and the victim received the critical care he needed,” said Lawrence County Sheriff Greg Day.
The Marion Township Fire Department, IU Health Lifeline Ambulance, Indiana State Police Crime Scene Technicians, Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office, and Martin County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the response.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the events leading to the shooting, and further details will be released as the case develops.
