BEDFORD—On October 31, a Mitchell man was sentenced to prison after failing to comply with the terms of his probation. Troy Dee Sanders, 53, was ordered by Lawrence Superior Court II Judge Robert Cline to serve 800 days in the Indiana Department of Correction for violating the conditions of his probation.
Sanders had previously pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 % or more, a Level 6 felony, on March 28, 2024, as part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana. In exchange for his guilty plea, Sanders was initially sentenced to 910 days in prison, with 878 days of that sentence suspended. He was also ordered to serve 878 days on supervised probation.
Despite the opportunity for rehabilitation through probation, Sanders failed to meet the required terms and conditions, which led to his probation being revoked. As a result, Judge Cline sentenced Sanders to 800 days in the Indiana Department of Correction, with credit for 26 days already served. His probation was officially terminated.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Arthur Pearcy prosecuted the case, representing the State of Indiana in it.
“Probation is an opportunity for individuals to prove they can change their course, but when that opportunity is ignored, there are consequences,” said Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Pearcy. “Judge Cline’s decision reinforces that those who violate the terms of their probation will be held accountable.”
Judge Robert Cline, known for his firm stance on enforcing probation conditions, clarified that probation violations would not be taken lightly. He has consistently emphasized the importance of holding defendants accountable for their actions and ensuring the justice system is respected.
