BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) will soon begin a project to improve stormwater drainage along a section of South Sare Road, aiming to enhance infrastructure resilience and road safety.
This critical project will involve replacing a culvert that is in poor condition under South Sare Road, located between East Winston Street and South McCartney Lane. Once the replacement is complete, the City’s Street Department will repave the affected section of the road to ensure safe, long-term use for Bloomington residents.
Work on the South Sare Road stormwater improvement project is scheduled to start on November 12 and is expected to be completed within approximately two weeks, weather permitting. It is essential to complete this work before local asphalt manufacturing facilities close for the winter season, as this will ensure the road is fully restored and protected from seasonal wear.
CBU and City Street crews will operate extended hours throughout the project to expedite the work and minimize disruptions.
Residents and commuters are advised to use designated detour routes, which will be marked by signage along the affected area.
“This improvement will help ensure more reliable stormwater management and maintain road integrity over time,” says Caden Swanson, the engineer managing the project at CBU. “While the construction period will be temporarily disruptive, the City appreciates residents’ patience as we work to implement these essential, long-lasting enhancements to the community’s infrastructure.”
