Barbara Jean (Courter) Bateman, 86, of Shoals, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Westview Nursing and Rehabilitation, Bedford.
Born May 2, 1938, in Bedford, she was the daughter of Aaron Courter and Virginia (Cox Courter) Taylor. She married Jerry Lee “Whistlepig” Bateman in the living room of Preacher Clive Bailey in Dover Hill on July 12, 1957, and he survives.
She graduated from Williams High School and is a member of Dover Hill Christian Union Church. Barbara was a homemaker, wife, mom, grandmother to a tribe of kids, and animal savior.
Surviving are her husband, Jerry “Whistlepig”; daughter, Kim Lee (Daniel) Showalter; son, Kerry Dean Bateman; grandsons, Adam (Tawnya) Showalter and Brady (Jennifer) Showalter; granddaughters, Nashta (Nathan) Moore and Kerri De-Ann Bateman; and many others she loved and cared for.
She was preceded in death by her parents and in-laws, Cleo and Mabel Bateman.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the Queen-Lee Chapel of George Funeral Care, with Steve Sims officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service hour on Saturday at the Queen-Lee Chapel, Shoals
