JASPER – A routine traffic stop on Interstate 80 in Lake County, Indiana, led to the arrest of David Kenneth Lee, a 28-year-old man from Indianapolis, who was wanted in connection with an armed robbery in Spencer County earlier this year.
The arrest occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. on November 11 when Indiana State Police Trooper Justin Baumeister stopped Lee’s vehicle.
Upon further investigation during the stop, it was determined that Lee had an active Level 3 felony warrant for his arrest, issued by Spencer County authorities in connection with a robbery at the Village Hut convenience store in Fulda, Indiana, on February 12, 2023. Lee was taken into custody and transported to the Lake County Jail before being transferred to the Spencer County Security Center, where he remains held on bond.
The February robbery at the Village Hut involved a masked assailant who entered the store armed with a handgun. The suspect demanded cash from the register before forcing the clerk to lie on the floor while he made his escape on foot. The suspect was not immediately located despite an extensive search following the incident. However, after months of investigation, including collaboration with law enforcement agencies in other states, the Indiana State Police determined Lee’s involvement in the crime.
Authorities have linked Lee to other similar robberies across state lines, though details on these incidents are still under investigation. The Indiana State Police Jasper Criminal Investigations Division is continuing its efforts, with support from local and federal partners, to determine the full scope of Lee’s criminal activity.
