Indiana State Police arrest driver after short pursuit and crash in Muncie

MUNCIE—A driver was arrested early on Saturday morning following a brief pursuit and subsequent crash in Muncie. The incident began at approximately 1:00 a.m. on November 16, when Trooper J.T. Burns attempted to stop a white Chevrolet Malibu near Madison Avenue and 29th Street for a routine equipment violation.

The driver, later identified as Brian K. Long Jr., 23, of Muncie, fled the traffic stop, leading officers on a short pursuit.  The chase ended when Long crashed into another uninvolved car at Madison Avenue and Walnut Street. Fortunately, the occupants of the uninvolved vehicle were not injured in the crash.

Trooper Jacob Ridgway, along with multiple members of the Indiana State Police, quickly apprehended Long at the scene. At the time of his arrest, Long was found wearing a ski mask.

A search of Long’s vehicle revealed two firearms: an AK-style pistol and an AR-style pistol. Additionally, Long was found to have marijuana.

Long Jr. was arrested on preliminary charges of:

  • Resisting Law Enforcement, a Level 6 Felony.
  • Reckless Driving, a Class A Misdemeanor.
  • Criminal Recklessness, a Class B Misdemeanor.
  • Possession of Marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
