GALENA – Bedford North Lawrence split double-dual meets with Floyd Central and Corydon during high school swimming action on Saturday.
The Highlanders swept the Stars, posting a 138-32 victory in the boys meet and a 136-40 decision in the girls meet. BNL conquered the Panthers in the boys meet (102-59) and the girls meet (96-70).
In the girls meet, top performances for the Stars included the 200-yard medley relay (Ava Lipp, Emma Heinzman, Cookie King and Sabrina Lipp combined to finish second overall in 2:05.03), the 400 freestyle relay (Mia Manke, Heinzman, King and Kendall Held were second in 4:47.54), and King in the 100 butterfly (second in 1:07.08).
“The girls picked up a nice team win against Corydon,” BNL coach Adam Young said. “That is a team that got second in our sectional last year, and they are a high-quality team again this year.
“We had some nice swims scattered throughout the meet. Emma Heinzman continues to exceed expectations for this time of the year. Jabrie Sullivan did very well in both her events, and Isabel Mason continues to drop time in bunches. We had a lot of illness today. Some that manifested at the meet, causing some scrambling of the lineups on both sides.”
In the boys meet, BNL’s top performances included Porter Brown (third in the 50 free in 25.24), Garrett Gabhart (third in the 100 butterfly in 56.77, missing first place by .47 seconds), and the 200 free relay (Vincent Knight, Carson Puckett, Porter Brown and Oliver Brown finished third in 1:49.33).
“The boys also won against Corydon, and Cameron Irwin had a solid day,” Young said. “His 100 free was impressive. Bruce Walker had PRs and some very nice swims today. We will look for both of them to make bigger contributions as the season progresses.”
BNL will host Bloomington North on Thursday.
