Motorcycle rider airlifted after serious crash on Interstate 70 near New Castle

HENRY CO. – A serious injury crash occurred on December 7, 2024, on Interstate 70 westbound at the New Castle exit (123-mile marker) that left a Jeffersonville man in critical condition.

A preliminary investigation by Trooper Max Disney indicated that at approximately 4:55 p.m., a red 2025 Harley Davidson three-wheeled motorcycle driven by Larry Dean Peeples, 79, from Jeffersonville, Indiana, left the roadway for an unknown reason as the vehicle exited the interstate.  Officers believe that Peeples appeared to have suffered a medical issue.  The three-wheeled motorcycle ran off the roadway in the curve, striking a sign before continuing into a ditch and rolling.

Trooper Disney arrived at the scene and found Peeples unresponsive.  He immediately began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until medical personnel arrived and took over.  Peeples was subsequently transported via Lifeline to IU Methodist Hospital, where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.  Peeples was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The New Castle exit on Interstate 70 westbound was closed for approximately one hour to allow emergency crews to treat the driver and clear the scene.

Trooper Disney was assisted by personnel from the Indiana State Police Pendleton District, Henry County Sheriff’s Department, Spiceland Volunteer Fire Department, New Castle EMS, and Davis Towing.

The investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
