KOSCIUSKO CO.- The Indiana State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash on US 30 in Kosciusko County that sent nine to the hospital this evening.
At approximately 5:39 p.m., the Indiana State Police responded to a crash between a pickup truck and a box truck at US 30 and N CR350 West. Preliminary investigation indicates that a maroon Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Jorge Moyotl, 44, of Warsaw, IN, was traveling northbound on N CR350 West. Moyotl crossed the eastbound lanes of US 30 but failed to yield to westbound traffic on US 30 and pulled into the path of a yellow 2011 GMC box truck driven by Usiel Martinez, 23, of Bremen, IN. Martinez and a passenger in the GMC were both transported to Kosciusko General Hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Moyotl and a backseat passenger, Fidela Acuahuitl, 44, of Warsaw, IN, were flown to Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne, IN, by two Lutheran Air Ambulances with serious injuries. Another adult and four juvenile passengers in the Chevrolet were also transported to local hospitals with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be factors in this crash. The lack of seatbelt use is believed to be a factor in the number of injuries due to the Chevrolet having too many occupants.
US 30 was temporarily shut down to land the Lutheran Air Ambulances and to load patients.
The Indiana State Police was assisted by the Warsaw Police Department, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Warsaw Fire, Lutheran EMS and Krause Towing.
