Kroger and Miller Poultry Partner to provide 13,800 pounds of food to Gleaners Food Bank for winter relief

INDIANA – In a show of community support, national grocery chain Kroger is stepping up to help combat food insecurity in Indiana this winter.

On Wednesday, Kroger is working alongside Miller Poultry to donate 13,800 pounds of poultry products to Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana. The donation, a holiday tradition for the Indiana-based poultry producer, aims to provide much-needed food for families facing hunger during the colder months.

“We know high-quality protein is always in demand for our food bank partners,” said Colleen Juergensen, president of Kroger’s Central Division. “It is essential for balanced diets, and finding enough protein can be challenging. So, we’re pleased to see a partner such as Miller significantly donate to Gleaners, especially at this time of year.”

Fred Glass, president and CEO of Gleaners, emphasized the importance of meat as a vital food item for those in need. “With need at high levels, this donation will help us stretch our already-tight food purchase budget and provide a highly desired source of protein for our neighbors,” Glass said.

Miller Poultry, a family-owned company working with local farmers for over 30 years to raise and process organic and all-natural poultry, has a long history of giving back to the community. Fred Lechlitner, Miller’s sales director, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support that makes such donations possible. “Our team is grateful for our partnerships that have supported our food donations over so many years,” he said.

Kroger, which has been working to address food insecurity through its “Zero Hunger | Zero Waste” initiative, praised the partnership for furthering its commitment to helping those in need. The 13,800-pound poultry will be delivered to Gleaners Food Bank at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Since launching its “Zero Hunger | Zero Waste” plan in 2017, Kroger has contributed more than $1 billion in hunger relief services nationwide. This includes donating 582 million pounds of surplus fresh food and helping to provide nutritious meals to Americans in need. Through these partnerships, Kroger has helped deliver over 3 billion meals to families nationwide.

The donation from Kroger and Miller Poultry highlights the importance of collaboration in the fight against food insecurity, especially during the winter months when many families face increased challenges.
