WASHINGTON CO. – Washington County Judge Larry Medlock on Tuesday ordered that items seized in the investigation into former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel and his family be auctioned off to help cover the $3.1 million in restitution he owes.
Noel pleaded guilty to 27 felonies in a negotiated plea deal to charges of fraud and theft. Judge Medlock said Noel used taxpayer funds to finance a lavish lifestyle. Jamey is incarcerated at the New Castle Correctional Facility.
The restitution payment will be distributed to several agencies, including:
- $2,870,924 to the Utica Township Volunteers Firefighters Association (doing business as New Chapel EMS)
- $173,155.07 to the Indiana Department of Revenue
- $61,190.77 to the Clark County Sheriff’s Department
- $35,245.60 to the Indiana State Police (ISP)
The auction will include items seized during the investigation following the execution of 71 search warrants. Among the items to be sold are:
- $6,000 recovered from one of Noel’s vehicles and $52,698 found in Misty Noel’s bedroom dresser
- Furniture, medical equipment, a 1940s Plymouth Model JHG 18-ton locomotive, and 100 feet of railroad track
- 82 firearms and one suppressor including numerous handguns, rifles and shotgunsTom James designer suits, sports coats, pants, and several Tom James items
- Four Rolex watches, a diamond necklace, a 1.35-carat diamond necklace, and a platinum women’s wedding band
- Property from the Utica Township Volunteers Firefighters Association, including a black Motorola portable radio, lawn mower, Milwaukee tools, and car batteries
- Several classic cars, the fleet mainly consists of vehicles from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s, including a 1959 Corvette, 1970 Corvette Stingray, 1966 Dodge Charger, and 2020 Mercedes-Benz S450 although they will require reconditioning before being sold.
Additionally, property from the Clark County Sheriff’s Department, including chairs, radios, shipping containers with various items, recliners, and lawnmowers, will also be auctioned.
Judge Medlock emphasized his preference for ensuring that the victims are compensated as fully as possible, stating, “I prefer the victims be made whole.”
Some items, including guns and jewelry, will be available for auction on January 1, 2025. However, the cars will take longer to prepare for sale, with that portion of the auction expected to occur in April.
Judge Medlock ordered that the $75,000 bond Noel posted in Clark County be applied to the total amount owed.
Items bought by, or used by, his estranged wife, Misty, or daughter, Kasey Noel, are not being sold now because their criminal cases are still pending. Those items include:
- $52,698 in cash was found in Misty’s dresser.
- 18-inch 1.35 CT diamond necklace.
- Platinum lady’s wedding band.
- Seven vehicles.
Noel’s criminal activities, which involved the misuse of public funds for personal gain, have resulted in a significant financial burden on multiple agencies. The auction is expected to raise substantial funds to help repay the restitution owed to these entities.
