BLOOMINGTON — Authorities are investigating a possible road rage incident involving a shooting that was reported Sunday night on Interstate 69.
According to Bloomington Police Captain Ryan Pedigo, the incident occurred just before 7 p.m. near the State Road 46 interchange. A 20-year-old driver told authorities he had entered I-69 at the Sample Road exit when a truck behind him accelerated suddenly, passing him on the right shoulder.
Pedigo said the driver described the truck as an older, rust-covered vehicle—possibly a Chevrolet pickup. After passing the car, the truck reportedly cut in front of the driver and moved into the left lane.
The driver then reported the truck’s driver appeared to yell something at him before turning off the truck’s headlights. It was at that moment the driver said he saw what he believed to be a muzzle flash and heard a loud bang, which he suspects was a gunshot.
Fortunately, Pedigo confirmed that the reported gunshot struck neither the driver nor his vehicle. Police searched the area but did not find any shell casings on the interstate.
The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to gather additional information and identify the truck involved. Authorities are urging anyone with information about this incident to come forward.
Motorists are encouraged to remain vigilant and practice patience while driving to avoid escalating situations on the road.
