WASHINGTON – A garage fire on Shannon Street in Washington prompted a large-scale emergency response on Sunday afternoon, as multiple agencies worked to contain the blaze during a winter storm. The incident was reported at 3:36 PM, leading to an immediate dispatch of personnel from the Washington Fire and Police Departments, along with medical teams.
Firefighters battled heavy flames throughout the structure, with crews working tirelessly in challenging conditions brought on by the storm. Due to the severity of the fire, off-duty firefighters were called in to assist, while efforts to manage the water supply were critical in containing the blaze. Additionally, utility crews were contacted to shut off gas to the property, ensuring safety as the fire continued to burn.
Street crews were also notified to address the dangerous water runoff and icy conditions that resulted from the firefighting efforts. Firefighters remained on-site for hours, ensuring that the scene was fully cleared by 8:51 PM.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident. However, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
