LAWRENCE COUNTY- The Lawrence County Health Department is making radon testing kits available free to the public. Kits are available in the Lawrence County Health Department lobby, 2419 Mitchell Rd, Bedford, while supplies last. Limit one test per household.
Anyone can get lung cancer from breathing in high levels of radon over time. Radon is an odorless, invisible, radioactive gas that can build up in homes and buildings, putting people at risk. All outdoor and indoor air has some radon in it, and some building materials can also release low gas levels. It can build up in the air in any home or building, whether it has a basement, is sealed or drafty, or is new or old. There is no known safe level of radon.
