Daviess County Historical Society hosts special basketball memories roundtable

WASHINGTON – The Daviess County Historical Society is set to host a special Basketball Memories Roundtable on Sunday, January 26, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Daviess County Museum in Washington. This year’s event, titled “The Road to State,” marks two significant milestones in the history of girls’ basketball in Daviess County.

The program will commemorate the 50th anniversary of IHSAA-sanctioned girls’ basketball in Daviess County, honoring the pioneering athletes and coaches of the 1975-76 season—the first to compete in the sectional tournament. Additionally, the event will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Washington Lady Hatchets’ remarkable run to the state finals in 1995.

The Basketball Memories Roundtable will feature a panel of former players, coaches, and community members sharing their stories and experiences from these historic moments. This celebration of the rich legacy of girls’ basketball in the area is free and open to the public, offering an opportunity to reflect on past achievements while inspiring future generations of athletes.
