When the incident occurred, Johnny McCarty, 54, of Seymour, was clearing snow and ice from County Road 800N, near County Road 500E. According to a 911 call at 7:59 p.m., McCarty’s truck slid off the narrow road, approximately one mile east of St. Louis Crossing. The vehicle then went into a ditch and rolled onto its side.

First responders from the Clifford Volunteer Fire Department and EMS quickly arrived on the scene. McCarty was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital as a precaution. Despite the severity of the crash, McCarty sustained only minor bruises and abrasions. After receiving treatment, he was released and sent home to recover.

In a separate but related incident, at least three trucks from the Jackson County Highway Department also found themselves stuck in ditches on Monday due to icy road conditions. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in those incidents.
