Bedford man sentenced to prison after violating probation terms

BEDFORD — A Bedford man was sentenced to prison on Wednesday, January 8, after failing to comply with the terms of his probation, prompting Judge John M. Plummer III of Lawrence Superior Court I to revoke his suspended sentence.

Christopher R. Fleetwood

Christopher R. Fleetwood, 39, had pled guilty to invasion of privacy, a Level 6 felony, as part of a negotiated plea agreement with the State of Indiana. As part of the agreement, Fleetwood was initially sentenced to 910 days in the Indiana Department of Correction, with all of the time suspended, and he was placed on 545 days of supervised probation.

However, Fleetwood violated the conditions of his probation multiple times, leading to the revocation of his suspended sentence. After hearing the case, Judge Plummer ordered that Fleetwood serve the 910-day sentence in the Indiana Department of Correction, with credit for 62 days already spent in jail.

Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Cummings

Senior Deputy Prosecutor Sarah Cummings spoke to the court about the defendant’s disregard for the probation terms: “This defendant was given the opportunity to stay in the community and work with probation to rehabilitate his life. However, this defendant was ignoring the terms and conditions that he agreed to participate in. You do not get to pick and choose what you want to do while on probation, and prison was the appropriate result.”
