COLUMBUS – Bedford North Lawrence conquered Columbus East and Trinity Lutheran during girls high school swimming action on Thursday.
The Stars posted a 113-61 win over the Olympians and a 128-18 triumph over Trinity. East won the boys meet with BNL by a 110.5-68.5 count.
BNL recorded six wins, including a sweep of the relays, in the girls meet. Cookie King claimed the 200-yard freestyle in 2:16.14, Ava Lipp took the 100 backstroke in 1:05.82, and Emma Heinzman touched first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:24.53.
In the relays, Heinzman and Lipp teamed with Mia Manke and Francesca Orozco to win the 200 medley relay in 2:12.60. King, Heinzman, Orozco and Sabrina Lipp combined for the 200 free in 1:55.07. Manke, King and both Lipps finished the meet with a win in the 400 free in 4:14.67.
“The snow days had an impact,” BNL coach Adam Young said. “It’s a little counterintuitive. You would think, with so much time off, we would be rested and see big drops. An abrupt change to training routine like we have had doesn’t usually produce super results. That said, we had a lot of PRs.”
In the boys meet, BNL’s Garrett Gabhart returned from an injury to win the 100 backstroke in 57.71, and he teamed with Oliver Brown, Carson Puckett and Porter Brown to win the 200 free relay in 1:41.71.
BNL will compete at Mt. Vernon on Saturday.
