Washington Police looking for driver in high-speed chase

DAVIESS CO.— A traffic stop early Monday morning escalated into a high-speed pursuit, with officers chasing a vehicle that reached up to 120 miles per hour. The incident began at 1:52 a.m. near 150 West and Old US Highway 50 when officers attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver fled westbound, tossing an object off a bridge as they continued the chase through Knox County.

As the pursuit continued, the suspect vehicle traveled southbound on Highway 41 toward Evansville, with officers reporting speeds exceeding 100 mph at several points. The car also drove the wrong way on Hart Street, further endangering public safety.

At 2:07 a.m., authorities decided to terminate the chase after losing sight of the vehicle near 15th and Willow Streets. Shortly thereafter, officers detained an individual on foot near 18th and Mentor Streets. However, this person was not the driver involved in the high-speed pursuit.

A confiscated item was marked for destruction as part of the investigation.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident and ask anyone with information to contact the Washington Police Department.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to identify the driver and determine the circumstances surrounding the high-speed chase.
