INDIANAPOLIS — Mike Braun was sworn in as Indiana’s 52nd governor Monday during a ceremony at the Hilbert Circle Theatre in Monument Circle. The event began at 11 a.m. and was streamed live and marked the beginning of Braun’s tenure as governor.
Braun, a Republican, was elected in November 2024 after defeating Democratic candidate Jennifer McCormick, the former superintendent of public instruction, and Libertarian nominee Donald Rainwater. Braun received 54.4% of the vote, securing a decisive victory and continuing Indiana’s trend of Republican leadership in the governor’s office, held by the GOP since Mitch Daniels’ 2004 election.
In addition to Braun, the inauguration ceremony also featured the swearing-in of Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita and Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith, both Republicans. Rokita was sworn in by Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta Rush, followed by Beckwith, who was then sworn into his new role. After their oaths, Rokita and Beckwith gave brief remarks to the audience.
Braun, who succeeds term-limited Governor Eric Holcomb, will be sworn in on two Bibles—his family Bible and one previously used by former President Benjamin Harrison. Following the oath of office, Braun delivered his inaugural address, outlining his vision for the state.
The ceremony featured performances by the 38th Infantry Division Band of the Indiana National Guard, the Wabash College Glee Club, and the Celebration Singers, adding to the celebratory atmosphere of the historic event. Braun’s inauguration marks a new chapter for Indiana as he begins his term as governor, following extensive preparations that included cabinet restructuring and the announcement of key members of his leadership team.
