MITCHELL — Burris Elementary School has announced its January schedule of events and a fundraising initiative, according to the school’s January 2025 newsletter.
A “Coin Wars” competition between Burris and Hatfield schools will raise funds for student activities. The fundraiser encourages students to bring in coins; silver coins add positive points to classroom totals, while pennies deduct points. The classroom with the highest total in each grade level will win a prize.
Other upcoming events at Burris include:
- January 6: First student day back after winter break.
- January 13: Mitchell Community Schools (MCS) Board Meeting.
- January 17: E-Learning Day.
- January 20: Make-up day; school will be in session.
- January 27: Visit from Bright Star Theatre.
The newsletter also addressed cold weather precautions, reminding parents to ensure children have appropriate winter clothing for recess. The school also requested that students bring water bottles daily, as drinking fountains have been replaced with bottle fillers.
The Burris School office staff is listed as Principal Mrs. Gilbert, School Counselor Mrs. Nicely, School Nurse Mrs. Shaw, and Secretaries Mrs. Cole and Mrs. Driver.
