Man arrested for breaking into Taco Bell, snacking on fries and drinks before opening hours

BLOOMINGTON — In an unusual late-night incident, Bloomington Police apprehended a man suspected of breaking into a Taco Bell on South Walnut Street before it opened for business. The male was identified as 37-year-old Brandon Harden, who allegedly indulged in fries and a soft drink during the break-in.

Harden faces multiple charges, including burglary, a Level 5 felony, and theft and possession of methamphetamine, both Level 6 felonies.

According to court documents, the Taco Bell manager discovered the break-in when she arrived at the store on Thursday, January 9, around an hour before opening. Upon entering, she encountered Harden, who reportedly claimed, “It’s okay, I’ll be back,” suggesting his family owned the restaurant.

Harden attempted to exit the store, but he was intercepted by a security guard stationed outside until law enforcement arrived. The manager later found a container with leftover fries, valued at $6.57, indicating that Harden had consumed the food.

In addition to the burglary charges, police reportedly found Harden in possession of methamphetamine during the arrest. The circumstances of how he gained entry into the restaurant remain unclear.

Harden’s criminal history includes several previous charges in Monroe County, such as residential entry, criminal trespass, and public intoxication. He also has pending charges for battery and additional meth-related offenses.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
