Zachary Myers Resigns as U.S. Attorney for Southern District of Indiana

INDIANA — Zachary Myers, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, announced his resignation on Tuesday, effective Saturday. Myers, who made history as the first Black U.S. Attorney for the district, has served in this role since November 2021.

In a statement, Myers expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead a dedicated team committed to public safety and justice. “It has been a privilege to lead this office of talented professionals who strive daily to make the public safer, hold lawbreakers accountable, and ensure that our rights are protected,” he said. He emphasized the importance of public service and collaboration with law enforcement partners to achieve impactful results.

Following Myers’ departure, First Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Childress will take over as acting U.S. Attorney under the Vacancies Reform Act.

During his tenure, Myers focused on several critical issues, including:

  • Combating gun violence and other violent crimes
  • Disrupting drug trafficking operations
  • Fighting against hate and discrimination
  • Protecting children from sexual exploitation and trafficking
  • Holding public officials accountable for breaches of trust
  • Addressing fraud targeting individuals, businesses, and the government

Under Myers’ leadership, the office has successfully pursued cases involving serious offenses and enhanced collaboration with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. He noted his pride in the accomplishments achieved during his time in office and expressed confidence that the office will continue its important work for the community.
