MARSHALL TOWNSHIP – During the commissioners’ meeting this morning, Sean Gish, a resident of Blackwell Drive in the Burkwood Addition of Marshall Township, requested the county consider designing Blackwell Drive as a county road.
Blackwell Drive, currently classified as a private road, was constructed in 2021 and is home to seven residents. The last snowstorm left the residents without vital services.

“Ideally, before a road is constructed, contractors should understand the specifications required to make the road a county road,” stated County President Rodney Fish. “This was not the case in this instance. This doesn’t necessarily mean the road won’t meet the county’s standards, but it would have significantly streamlined the process.”
Gish will meet with Highway Superintendent Brian Sowder to discuss the next steps required to determine the road’s eligibility for county road status.
