
BEDFORD— Lawrence County will take steps to restore property markers damaged during a major water main break on 16th Street in June 2024.
The County Commissioners approved Commissioner Jeff McKnight and Surveyor Cory Allen’s request to replace cornerstones that sustained undetermined damage during the incident. The repairs will be funded from existing funds within the Surveyor’s budget.

The water main break occurred in June 2024 and caused significant disruption and damage to 16th Street. The City of Bedford and the Redevelopment Commission took swift action in response to the emergency. On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, they passed an emergency resolution declaring an emergency and authorizing a public works project to repair the damaged roadway and install a new water main.


The county surveyor’s office’s replacement of the cornerstones will be crucial in ensuring that accurate property boundaries are re-established following the extensive repair work.
