(NORTH VERNON) – Jennings County escaped with a thrilling five-set victory over Bedford North Lawrence during high school volleyball action on Thursday night.
The Panthers fought off BNL’s feisty surge for a 25-14, 23-25, 25-18, 24-26, 15-12 victory as the Stars fell to 0-6 (0-1 in the Hoosier Hills Conference).
“I am super proud of the kids,” BNL coach Jordan Robbins said. “They played hard as a team, and we started doing little things right that we haven’t even focused on yet due to the other basics we couldn’t seem to master.
“Our movement and coverage was so tough. We came out shaky but fought tough and competed against a tough team.”
BNL’s Merritt Callahan was 21 of 22 serving with 4 aces, 10 points, 18 assists and 15 digs. Carlee Kern was 13 of 13 serving with 10 kills and 13 digs, and Annie Waggoner was 12 of 13 serving with 5 kills, 10 assists and 9 digs.
Haley Deckard was 18 of 18 serving for 12 points with 10 kills and 15 digs, Myla Bergman was 15 of 16 serving with 17 digs, and Hayley Davis was 11 of 12 serving with 13 digs.
“Heading into our first HHC matchup, we knew it would be extra tough,’ Robbins said. “The kids showed the most mental toughness yet, and we will continue to build on tonight’s progress.”
The Stars will compete in the Brown County Invitational on Saturday.
