(BEDFORD) – Bedford North Lawrence went 4-1 to finish second in the season-opening Super Six Duals on Saturday at BNL Fieldhouse.
The Stars posted victories over North Harrison (66-12), Silver Creek (60-12), Forest Park (42-36) and New Albany (48-30) before falling to Madison (46-30) in their final match. BNL’s runner-up conclusion was its best in the history of the event.
“I’m ecstatic,” BNL first-year coach Greg Stevens said. “It’s great to get off to a good start. I saw a lot of stuff we’ve been working on, and we were hitting them. It was just awesome.”
James Covey (220 pounds), Conner Smith (160) and Gunner Connaughton (195) all went undefeated in their respective weight classes, while Trish Hanners, Christian Brown (182) and Drake Huber (170) had four wins each.
“Conner was a master on the double-arm tilt,” Stevens said. “He put a wrestler on his back so fast, the other guy didn’t see it coming.
“I saw some really great wrestling from our boys. I was so proud of them. I’m very happy with second place, and we could have easily won it. Next year we’ll win it.”
BNL will return to action on Dec. 3 at Scottsburg.
